How to quickly estimate the best distance for your TV
• Method A (by screen size, 4K TVs)
• Recommended distance ≈ TV size (inches) × 1.2–1.6 ft
• Examples:
◦ 55" → 55 × 1.2 ≈ 6.6 ft (2.0 m); 55 × 1.6 ≈ 8.8 ft (2.7 m)
◦ 65" → 65 × 1.2 ≈ 7.8 ft (2.4 m); 65 × 1.6 ≈ 10.4 ft (3.2 m)
◦ 75" → 75 × 1.2 ≈ 9.0 ft (2.7 m); 75 × 1.6 ≈ 12.0 ft (3.7 m)
• Method B (by diagonal, more precise)
• 1 inch = 0.0254 m; distance (m) ≈ diagonal (m) × 2
• Examples:
◦ 65" → diagonal ≈ 1.65 m → distance ≈ 1.65 × 2 ≈ 3.3 m (≈10.8 ft)
◦ 75" → diagonal ≈ 1.91 m → distance ≈ 1.91 × 2 ≈ 3.8 m (≈12.5 ft)
Practical tips
• For movies, sports, or gaming, sit closer to the lower end of the range for more immersion.
• For long viewing sessions, older viewers, or kids, sit closer to the upper end for less eye strain.
• Fixed seating distance? Choose the TV size whose recommended range includes your sofa‑to‑wall distance.
• Not sure? Bring a tape measure to a showroom and test your preferred distances with real 4K content before you buy.
